What was Business Safety Week 2020?

Last week was NFCC’s Business Safety Week which was an opportunity to provide awareness to small and medium sized businesses of their fire safety responsibilities in the workplace. The aim was to help small and medium sized businesses work with fire and rescue services to make sure they are complying with the law and reduce their risk of fire, especially in response to the recent challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Why is Business Safety Week important?

Business Safety week is important as it gives advice and guidance to businesses to help ensure compliance. During the week, we discussed the importance of ensuring that any new safety measures implemented in response to Covid19 do not affect the pre-existing fire safety measures, including having an up to date fire risk assessment and ensuring fire doors and exits remain clear and accessible at your premises. We also looked at the impact of false alarms and how they can be prevented, how to prevent arson; tips for keeping your business safe whilst closed and a checklist to help you prepare to reopen your business.
